Okay, some of you are reading that headline and thinking, "But it's only August 29 and Monique's birthday isn't until October 29. Two months is really early."
Yeah, it is really early. But I had a good idea for a birthday present for her -- something I knew she really wanted -- and it seemed a good idea to give it to her now than on the cusp of Winter.
Why was it a good idea to give her her present now? 'Cause it's a kayak! Did she like it? I'm not sure. She squealed briefly, then paddled away.
If you see her paddling by a lake, river, or stream near you, you can ask her if she likes it. And wish her Happy Birthday, even though it isn't her birthday.

Yeah! A fluorescent yellow kayak! She might have paddled away but you can't miss her anyway in that! Happy birthday Monique
ReplyDeleteWhen Mom said "You can't fish in a kayak," I said, "Oh yes you can, all you need is...." but my theory of kayak fishing might take up too much space here. Suffice it to say "You CAN fish in a kayak!"
ReplyDeleteThat is a great birthday present! And I don't think she'd get much use out of it at the end of November in Michigan. Happy Early Birthday Monique!
ReplyDeleteMalcolm should know that the kayak salesman showed me all the handy places on the kayak where a fishing-rod holder could be installed. However, I thought it bad form to start attaching rod holders to Monique's kayak before she even got it.
ReplyDeleteYay, Kayaking! Happy early birthday and welcome to the club Monique! Kayaking with or without fishing is awesome! (Bob)
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! --
ReplyDeleteJohn, for the wonderful early birthday present and everyone else who sent early birthday wishes too.
I must say, if you want to really surprise somebody for his or her birthday, presenting a gift two months in advance will do it nicely.
And what fun she is, my new kayak. Her name is sunflower. We are a perfect fit. And kayaking seems so... natural, so intuitive, gliding with the current--currents I never really noticed in our lake before--or making a quick directional shift and slicing throught the waves with ease.
I am going to enjoy kayaking even more than I expected!
Wow, what a great present...and I think I just saw you zipping by the window here Monique....I am sure that if you paddle the kayak as you drive the car, it very well may have been you. Hope you have a few more days left to enjoy...and happy early birthday. Love, Babs
ReplyDeleteYou lucky girl! What a great surprise to find a bright yellow kayak next to the pontoon boat upon waking up on this cool August morning. May I be permitted to use it just once? Kayakking was my my favorite water sport from way way back when... I promise not to ask for it more than once.
