Day Seven of The Big Road Trip found us finally on our way up to Yellowstone. Our drive up took us past the Grand Tetons:
The Grand Tetons look quite pretty, don't they? Gosh, what's that falling out of the sky? Uh-oh. It looks like snow.
Our camp at Grant Village in Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone Lake was just a hundred feet down the hill.
The next morning dawned cold. Really cold. The toothpaste was frozen, and so were Henry and Malcolm's hands, which they then warmed around the water we were heating for oatmeal.
My tin coffee cup from Tortola in the British Virgin Islands has never seen such a chilly morning. A hot cup of coffee felt pretty darn good on my own hands.
Then it was off to the Upper Geyser Basin and Old Faithful.
Malcolm wanted to see a grizzly bear. We had a quick success at the Old Faithful Lodge!
Here's an eruption cycle with Old Faithful. Old Faithful gained its nickname due to its extreme reliability. It goes off every ninety minutes, give or take just a few minutes either way. This eruption was forecast for 10:45 am. And indeed, here we are at 10:44 am:
The eruption began right on time at 10:45 am:
After about ten minutes it was back to just venting steam. Next eruption: 12:21 pm.
Next post? The rest of the Upper Geyser Basin.
