This kind of reminds me of the time period right after we put Moose the cat down. Zoe the cat was completely aware of what happened and was the best behaved cat in town for a few weeks. I think she was afraid we offed him because of poor behavior instead of multiple strokes.
Is your beagle behaving better in everyone's absence? Or is she worse due to anxiety about the unknown?

Although we've never successfully trained her in "heel", I had a beagle to my right and one step behind all weekend long.
